Been awhile

It's been awhile since i last posted. I'm not sure any one is reading anyway. But that's ok if your not reading, but then you wouldn't see this so here's to you. :) Thanks. I graduated last February from high school. I took the GED and past with ease. I did really good and yet I have to go to summer school at a local collage! I thought that adolescent kids and ignorant people went to summer school, no offense but I'm a bit ticked at the whole thing. A lot of people have sent me cash and checks along with nice words. Thanks to every one who did, you know who you are. Lucky for me my collage has a summer class that is being taught by a great professor on a subject I love, Astronomy! And now its official, I'm a freshman.

But some good has arose. I singed up for a cooking class at our local Tai/Vietnamese restaurant, Indochine. It has excellent food, great service and the owners are really great people. I love the combination of the sweet nutty coconut and the slicing heat of the chili peppers not to mention all of the different curries. I am so excited to get my hand on cooking. We are going to make spring rolls, Tai noodle combination bowl and for dessert, sticky rice with mangoes and sweet coconut milk.

That's all the time I have for right now.

ATCs

Today's post is going to be centered on ATCs. ATCs are Artist Trading Cards. They are cards in witch you do the art for. I was introduced to them just a couple of days ago. As seeing that I'm an aspiring artist of some sorts, I was trilled to find out about these little things.

I thought that ATCs were just something my friend came up with, but with a quick search online I found that *the "ATC movement" developed out of the mail art movement. They also have origins in Switzerland. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc), paper media (in the form of collage, paper-cuts, found objects, etc). The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold.
M. Vänçi Stirnemann originated the idea in 1996, holding trading sessions in Zurich, Switzerland.

Clubs, trading sessions, and online mail-art communities have largely replaced the original concept of trading the cards during individual encounters, and many ATC workshops end with a trading session.* So with that being said here are some of my ATCs. (The details on ATCs in between the two asterisks* is from Wiki.)

If you are interested in trading send me an E-mail at rodandcustom45@gmail.com.

Balance board fun

This week I found out about balance boards. Its good for surfing, and sense we don't get all that many BIG waves up here, I thought it my best chance at practice. I did a little research and found some boards that like cost a lot! $150 and up. But then I found a 'build your own' web page. It didn't look to hard, and for around $25 - $30 you could get the wood and roller. So I built a board. First, I made a template out of posterboard. once I had the template, all I had to do was trace and cut. Thats exactly what I did. I was so anxious to ride the thing, and after useing the jig saw, I tryed it on a 4" diameter pine log. It wooked really well, but I needed to get a larger dia log to roll on. 6" would be the best, but the only avalible 6" dia roller was a 10' long PVC pipe for $25! I ended up setleing for a 5" log. It works well. For a wile I used it just plain, but soon I staind it.

My Mom told me to make one for the kid across the street. I didn't have a choice, but I knew it would be fun. I made the board like so fast! I then satind and put 3 coats of polyurithane on both boards. I made sure to make it a surprise for Jordan who would get it.

While doing all this I made one other board that looks like a skate board. It got the coats of polyurithane, but no stain. It is a quick board to ride while the others dryed.

G1 phone

I am posting from my new G1 phone! Its so awsome. It is well worth the cost for those of you looking at getting one. The keys on the keyboard don't fat thumb, and the touch screen has great controll. I tryed out the GPS on it and it is surprisingly acurate. I don't get 3G coverage where I am, but internet conection is still good. The quality of sound on calls and music is great and the phone works well with bluetooth. I don't know anyting else to say about the G1. Over all, Its one of the best cell phones out there.
